Three men were yesterday charged in connection with the IRA bombing of a Warrington gasworks and shooting of PC Mark Toker last Friday, Cheshire police said yesterday. Two men arrested after a car chase following the shooting have been charged with the attempted murder of PC Toker, abduction of a man and conspiracy to cause explosions.
Police said a third man arrested hours later in Nottingham has also been charged with conspiracy to cause explosions. All three will appear before Arbour Square magistrates in east London today.
Two women arrested in Nottingham were released without charge.
Detectives also said they had found explosives and bomb-making equipment at allotments at Wilford, Nottingham, on Sunday.
Police said the find was connected with the Warrington explosion last Friday. Detectives are still hunting a man who is believed to be armed.
