From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The 35-year-old, whose big break came in the BBC sitcom My Family and has featured in television advertisements for British Telecom, was out with friends in Bristol on Saturday night when he was hit by a car.
He was taken to Bristol Royal Infirmary, where a scan revealed head injuries. He remains in intensive care but his condition is improving, his mother told the BBC.
Marshall's publicist said yesterday: "He is in a stable condition and is expected to be discharged within the next couple of days."
A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: "There was a collision between a car and pedestrian shortly before 1am on Sunday. It happened in St Augustine's Parade in Bristol city centre.
"A man in his 30s was taken to hospital with head injuries not considered to be life-threatening. Police spoke to the driver of the car involved, which was a Volkswagen Polo.
"The driver stopped immediately after the collision and we are looking into how the accident happened. He was not a drink-driver."
Marshall played the hapless Nick Harper in My Family from 2000 until 2005, a role for which he was named best comedy newcomer at the 2002 British Comedy Awards. In an interview in 2004, he said the role had been both "a gift and poisoned chalice".
The actor, who hails from the Cotswolds but now lives in Windsor, Berkshire, also appeared in the hit film Love Actually, and played detective Luke Stone in the ITV1 drama serial Murder City.
He has recently finished shooting a horror comedy film, Hotel Caledonia, in which he plays a seasonal worker at a remote Scottish hotel. He has also been rehearsing for the forthcoming premiere of the West End play Fat Pig. A spokesman said Marshall was expected to resume rehearsals shortly and be well enough to star in the production when it opens on 27 May at the Trafalgar Studios.
Marshall has previously co-starred in a West End production of Treats alongside Billie Piper and Laurence Fox. In Hotel Caledonia, he appears with Kelly Brook as Norman Tickle, an over-sized teenager who is kicked out of home by his weary mother and dictatorial stepfather and can do nothing but take to the road in search of the big adventure called "adulthood".
Described as Fawlty Towers-meets-Psycho, the film is directed by Nicholas David Lean and follows the progress of the inconsequential loser, Tickle, and his best friend, Arty Harris, who meet a multinational crowd of backpackers heading for a seasonal bar work. In a dilapidated, musty hotel run by the "Clan Pertwee", he discovers how quickly the transition from boy to man is needed.
