Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

A passer-by found part of a shoe in the West Chiltington area, just a few miles from where the eight-year-old's body was found in a field near Pulborough, West Sussex.
Detectives are also examining cloth discovered at Bramber Castle, Bramber, a few miles further to the south-east of Pulborough.
Nick Sandford, spokesman for Sussex police, said: "The material has been found at Bramber and we are working to try to confirm whether it is linked with our case or not. Searches are continuing in that area.
"In the West Chiltington area, part of a shoe has been recovered and again, we are working to confirm whether it is connected with this inquiry. Searching is still going on in that area also."
Mr Sandford said the operation to question motorists on the A29 overnight had been a success. Just under 2,000 interviews were carried out and some new information had been gathered.
He said drivers had been very supportive despite the inevitable traffic delays.
