Human remains have been discovered after a fire in a barn following reports that two teenage boys were missing, police said.

Fire investigators recovered what are believed to be human remains from the scene of the blaze at Buckton Farm, north of Belford in north Northumberland.

It has not yet been possible to identify the remains, but police officers were searching for two teenage boys who had been reported missing from the same area, a Northumbria force spokesman said. Firefighters were called to the fire at around 8.30pm on Saturday and spent the entire night tackling the fire.

A police spokesman said: "A joint investigation is under way between Northumbria Police and Northumberland fire and rescue service" and appealed for witnesses to the blaze.
