The Forth Rail Bridge could receive the same status as the Taj Mahal and Great Wall of China.

The Forth Bridges Forum has been invited to prepare a formal bid for World Heritage Status after the site featured on a shortlist submitted to Unesco by the UK Government.

A nomination could go forward in 2014, with a decision expected the following year.
