From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Dutch Coastguard has recovered three bodies from the sea, two weeks after giving up a search for a British yacht that went missing on a pleasure voyage along the Dutch coast.

Two have been positively identified as members of the crew of the Tuila - Cambridge University student Carol Smith and Adam Clackson, the only experienced sailor on board.

A fisherman alerted the Coast Guard that he saw a body floating about one mile off the coast of the northern town of Den Helder, said spokesman Peter van Oorschot.

Shortly after it was pulled from the sea, another was recovered close by and a third was found five miles away, he said.

The Dutch Coastguard is continuing to search for the fourth body with two helicopters, a customs boat, and 14 lifeboats close to the island of Texel where the other bodies were spotted.
