A number of people have been injured following a collision between two cable cars at a mountain resort in northern Scotland, police said.

Inverness mountain rescue team and rescue helicopters are attempting to remove casualties from the scene of the accident at the Nevis Range resort near Fort William.

An RAF spokesman told Sky News that up to eight people had been injured, some serious.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We've had a report of an incident involving a cable car at Ben Nevis. Possibly up to seven people have fallen out on to the hillside, possibly a child is among the casualties."
