Bob Geldof has accused Theresa May of "pimping" the Queen and the nation ahead of Donald Trump's visit to the UK.

The Boomtown Rats singer, 65, criticised the prime minister for inviting US President to the UK in a series of pointed anti-Brexit remarks.

“When she pimps the Queen, she pimps the nation,” he told a London speaking engagement, according to The Sun.

“This is a disgrace, this is a disgrace," he said, "She has no right or mandate to do that within a week of this creep becoming president. This is embarrassing for this country, it's embarrassing.”

The comments come after Mr Trump was invited to the UK during talks with Ms May last year. The high profile visit was rumoured to take place in June, but was delayed in an alleged attempt to avoid protests over his Muslim ban.

It is expected the controversial three-day trip will now go ahead in October this year.

The Live Aid founder is vocal in his anti-Brexit views, having previously branded Britain’s decision to leave the European Union as the “greatest act of national self-harm that has ever been perpetrated in British history”.

He has said that he will do “everything in my power” to speak out against the exiting the 27 nation bloc – and admitted that even though he accepts the result of the referendum, he does not respect it.
