The Labour Party in Blackpool: Civil List 'bloated'

The Civil List is 'grotesquely bloated, bigger than every other European monarchy's', Gordon Prentice, MP for Pendle, told the conference. The cost had doubled from pounds 4m to pounds 8m and would be uprated by 7.5 per cent for the next 10 years.

'What is grotesque is that we cannot even discuss it in Parliament. It is almost as absurd as the monarch not paying tax on her colossal personal fortune,' Mr Prentice said. 'Royal finances are opaque and should be transparent.' The House of Windsor should be reformed along with the House of Lords as part of modernising Britain's entire 'antique' constitution.
