Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

THIS WEEK sees the most significant improvements in the Independent on Sunday and the daily Independent since the papers were launched. Today the Independent on Sunday comes in three new broadsheet sections, each designed to clarify and broaden our coverage, and an enlarged Sunday Review. On Tuesday, the Independent will go into two broadsheet sections; the first section will be devoted to an enlarged service of domestic news, foreign news and comment; the second section will offer more features, arts, business and sports coverage.

Both newspapers will use more colour to enhance their reputation for fine photography. Both will expand their range of interests in the service of the reader. But our style and our values will not change.

These improvements carry a substantial cost, which is why we have to ask you to pay a higher price for your newspapers. Today this newspaper moves from 90p to pounds 1, while on Tuesday the Independent's weekday price will go up from 45p to the Saturday price, 50p. We hope and believe that you will be prepared to pay a realistic price for our continuing commitment to quality and the continuing independence of the Independent and the Independent on Sunday.
