Carol Rumens was born in 1944 in London. She has been poetry editor of Quarto and The Literary Review, and has held several writing fellowships, most recently at Queen's University, Belfast. Rumens has won several prizes for her poetry, including the Cholmondeley Award and the Prudence Farmer Award. This poem appears in Thinking of Skins; New and Selected Poems published by Bloodaxe at pounds 8.95.
