Nina Cassian was born in 1924 in Romania. She began her literary career in 1947, with publication of her first poetry collection La Scara 1/1. Since then, she has published over fifty books. Her collections have included, Call Yourself Alive?: Love Poems (Forest Books 1988), Life Sentence (Anvil 1990). This appears in Cheerleader For a Funeral published by Forest Books at pounds 6.95.
