Seamus Heaney was born in Derry in 1939. He has published more than 23 volumes of poetry and criticism. The Given Note was first published in Door Into The Dark (Faber) in 1969. All this week the Daily Poem features poetry from The Given Note exhibition which explores the links between poetry and traditional Irish music. Photographs by Christy McNamara and poems chosen by Michael Donaghy can be seen at the Poetry Library, Royal Festival Hall (inquiries: 071 921 0664) until 11 September.
