Brendan Kennelly was born in 1936 in Co Kerry, and is Professor of Modern Literature at Trinity College, Dublin. He has published more than 20 books, including Cromwell (Bloodaxe, 1987) and edited the Penguin Book of Irish Verse. This poem appears in A Time for Voices: Selected Poems 1960-1990 published by Bloodaxe at pounds 7.95.
