Eavan Boland was born in Dublin in 1944 and studied in Ireland, London and New York. Her most recent collections, all published by Carcanet, include Selected Poems (Poetry Book Society Recommendation, 1989) and Outside History (Poetry Book Society Choice, 1990). This poem is from her new collection In a Time of Violence, a Poetry Book Society Choice, published by Carcanet at pounds 6.95.
