Barry Turrell is a pupil at Handford Hall County Primary in Ipswich, Suffolk. He was nine years old when he wrote the poem. His teacher is John Lynch. The poem won a major award in the 1993 W H Smith Young Writers Competition and is published in the anthology, My Hand is Elastic, (Pan Macmillan, pounds 4.99). Lauren Coffey's poem 'Barry' was published yesterday.
