Tom Pickard was born in Newcastle in 1946, left school at 14, and set up Morden Tower poetry readings with Connie Pickard in 1964. Since 1975 he has lived and worked in Warsaw, the United States, London and the North as a freelance writer and film-maker. This poem originally appeared in Hero Dust (Allison & Busby, 1979) and now appears in Tiepin Eros: New & Selected Poems published by Bloodaxe at pounds 7.95.
