That's the way the money goes: used banknotes, chopped up and compressed, being dumped for the Bank of England at a landfill site near Tilbury yesterday. The bank has to dispose of seven tons a day. To avoid pollution they are no longer burned, but selling them as novelty firelighters is among proposals being investigated.
