THE Secretary of State for Education has agreed to meet five of the six teaching unions to discuss this summer's English tests for 14-year-olds - but he insisted that the tests, which they oppose, will go ahead.
John Patten told leaders of the other union - the National Association of Schoolmasters-Union of Women Teachers - that he would not meet them until they dropped their decision to ballot members on a boycott of all tests.
