A MAN who video-recorded himself repeatedly raping young girls has been jailed for 28 years - believed to be a record for sex crimes.

Adrian Mole, 43, raped two girls 'hundreds of times', forcing them to take part in sex acts and threatening to disfigure them if they told police.

The victims, now in their twenties, had told the jury the attacks started when they were under 16 - one was 11.

Sentencing him at Winchester Crown Court, Judge Martin Tucker QC likened him to 'a butcher laying out a carcass'.

He continued: 'This was not just rape, it was torture you were getting your satisfaction from. These girls were subjected to a catalogue of disgusting depravity and unspeakable perversions.

'In these videos you treated the two of them for all the world like a butcher laying out a carcass before jointing it. In the video one of the girls had the look of a lost soul without hope of escape. We are dealing with hundreds and hundreds of rapes.

'The public would not complain if you were put in prison and the key was thrown away, but the courts do not treat torture with cruelty.

'This is the longest sentence I . . . have heard of being imposed in a case of this kind. It is needed to mark the enormity of the crimes you have committed and to protect your victims from further harm.'

Mole, of Christchurch, Dorset, was found guilty of 10 specimen charges of rape and a further specimen charge of attempted buggery. He was cleared of one rape, an indecent assault, an attempted rape and perverting the course of justice.

The court was told that Mole dominated his victims by fear and used the girls in a 'frequent, callous and relentless way'.

One victim said Mole sometimes tied her hands behind her back with her underwear before raping her. She added: 'He never wore protection and only had a bath once every week or two. He smelt and sweated a great deal.'

Mole, who denied all the charges, claimed the girls were willing partners. He said he became 'obsessed' with one and took the video of them having sex to counter her threats to disclose what was going on. He admitted making a similar video of the other girl - also to stop her saying anything.

John Royce QC, for the prosecution, told the court Mole's victims were 'puppets through fear'. He said Mole was confident they would not tell anyone because of his threats.

The jury were shown videos Mole made of the rapes. 'The name Adrian Mole conjures up for all of us pictures of a humorous diary . . . the last thing in this case is humour,' Mr Royce said.

'The offences against the girls reduced them to a form of sexual slavery. He was a big man and a bully and he used violence and threats of violence to achieve his ends.'
