Four hours of pornography was beamed into the homes of several thousand satellite television viewers for the first time yesterday.

There are no British laws to prevent the broadcasts, which come from the Netherlands, despite fears that children may see scenes of oral sex, group sex and lesbian sex. Tony Blair, the shadow Home Secretary, said the law should be changed. Continental Television, based in Manchester, has been supplying decoders at pounds 90 each to subscribers, who then have to pay pounds 47.25 a quarter.
