Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. After Nigel Farage's expected resignation from Ukip following his defeat in Thanet South, Ukip is on the hunt for a new leader the party's Deputy Chairman, Suzanne Evans, has been named interim leader.
Suzanne Evans
A former BBC radio presenter, Evans has been instilled as interim leader and is probably the favourite.

This lead to a high-profile by-election last summer, which Carswell won to become Ukip's first elected MP.
During his time in the House of Commons, Carswell was a key figure behind the fall of the former Speaker, Michael Martin, putting forward a motion of no confidence in May 2009, which led to Martin’s demise.
Paul Nuttall
A Ukip supporter since 2004, Deputy Party LeaderNuttall is also the MEP for North West England.
He was appointed Ukip Party Chairman back in 2008 and held this role until 2010. He's a prominent Ukip voice on TV, although he has very low attendance in the European Parliament – he is placed 736th out of 756 MEPs.
Nigel Farage
Didn't he just quit. Yes, but Farage has left the door open for a possible return. The former commodity broker said in his resignation speech that he was going to take some time out. And then who knows what...
