THE TUC has broken with the past by hiring an 'outsider' - a former Liberal Democrat official - as a campaigns adviser, writes Barrie Clement.
Des Wilson, who ran the Liberal Democrats' 1992 election campaign and has also worked for Shelter and Friends of the Earth, has been awarded a six-month contract to advise on strategy, particularly longer-term projects such as the campaign for full employment. The appointment is seen as further evidence that the TUC is seeking to distance itself from the Labour Party.
