PITS: The four Welsh collieries mined a monthly average of 39,196 tonnes per pit in the six months to the end of September, David Hunt, Secretary of State for Wales, said. The pit average for the 45 English collieries during the same time was 103,026 tonnes.

MAXWELL PENSIONERS: Just over pounds 1m of the pounds 2.5m grant to the Maxwell Pensions Unit has been allocated to eight pension schemes benefitting 5,500 pensioners and deferred pensioners, Ann Widdecombe, a social security minister, said.

COUNCIL HOUSE RECEIPTS: About pounds 5bn of the pounds 5.5bn set aside by local authorities to redeem debt as at 31 March 1991 is likely to have originated from capital receipts, Robin Squire, an environment minister, said.
