BADGER CULL: A total of 1,081 badgers were shot in the West Country last year in a bid to cut the threat of tuberculosis to cattle, Nicholas Soames, junior agriculture minister, said last night. Of those shot, 272 were found to have TB. The figures cover Avon, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire.
