A video posted on Twitter shows a passing heckler telling a Conservative parliamentary candidate he is "disgusting" and should "rot in hell".

Richard Osley, the deputy editor of the Camden New Journal, posted the video, which was intended to be a short interview with the Conservative candidate for Holborn and St Pancras, Will Blair, as he went to cast his vote in a Kentish Town polling station.

However, the interview was interrupted by a woman passing in a car, who shouts at him from the road.

In one of the more dramatic incidents of election day, she shouts: "You Tories, you've got no right to be outside the NHS, you're destroying it!"

The polling station was the Kentish Town Health Centre, on Bartholomew Road in Camden.

Mr Blair goes over to the car to talk to the women, and is met with another barrage of heckles.

She shouts: "You are revolting, you should rot in hell!", before driving away.

Commenting on the scene afterwards to the Camden New Journal, Mr Blair said: "I'm not sure if she's made her mind up, but I suspect it's not going to be for me."

"I didn't get the impression she was up for a debate, I think she just wanted to make her point - which she did, and that's fair enough."

"You don't tend to get that, it's quite rare actually. But I've been in this game long enough to take the rough with the smooth."

Will Blair is set for more opposition as the polls close - he's fighting for election in a safe Labour seat, against Keir Starmer, the former Director of Public Prosecutions and former Head of the Crown Prosecution Service.

He's also up against the leader of the Green Party, Natalie Bennett, who have been campaigning hard in the constituency to take the place of the previous MP, Labour's Frank Dobson, who is standing down.
