Ed Miliband's wife Justine Miliband 'rolled her eyes' when the Labour leader described the #Milifandom phenomenon to her

It's almost as if she thought it was a brilliantly devised press stunt or something

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Not even Ed Miliband’s wife could believe it she first heard her husband had enjoyed an 11th hour surge in popularity entirely driven by teenage girls.

The Labour leader appeared to inspire One Direction levels of adoration with a hashtag (#Milifandom) to boot.

“Thinking of Miliband,” one Milifan lovingly captioned her dreamy selfie.

But how did wife Justine react to all the sudden female attention toward her husband?

“I said to her, ‘there’s this thing called the Milifandom,’ and she rolled her eyes, as if to say, ‘I can’t quite believe it,’” Miliband told the Evening Standard.

“I think she’s a bit bemused by it, to be honest.”

It is the second time the lawyer, who goes by her maiden name of Thornton, has hit the headlines this week.

Justine caused mild alarm when she was seen cycling the wrong way down a one-way street and jumping a red traffic light on her way to work.

“Justine believes it is very important that everyone obeys the Highway Code and she will be more careful on her bike in future,” a Labour spokesperson said.
