Days after he forgot which football team he supported - saying West Ham instead of Aston Villa - the Prime Minister forgot the date of the election.
Speaking to staff working for the radar systems company Kelvin Hughes, Mr Cameron said: "I have a guarantee if I'm your Prime Minister after the 9th.... after the 7th of May. And it's this. We will finish the job of getting the deficit down."
It comes a day after Mr Cameron ramped up his rhetoric after two Tory donors hit out at his lack of inspiration so far on the campaign trail.
He was criticised for his “curious lack of energy and belief in his campaign," while another donor said he was not the “slightest bit inspiring”.
He received further questions yesterday after Lord Bell, Margaret Thatcher's election strategist, said the Conservatives had underestimated Ed Miliband and said the Tory leader should have shown more passion earlier on.
But in one of his most passionate speeches of the campaign yesterday, Mr Cameron insisted: "I really feel so passionately about this election."
