Your support makes all the difference.Prime Minister David Cameron and Labour leader Ed Miliband faced grilling from veteran interviewer Jeremy Paxman tonight, in the first of the debates and interviews broadcast in the run up to the general election.
After Cameron said he would not go head-to-head with Miliband, the pair were instead questioned separately twice. The second round saw them face a studio audience in the joint Sky News/Channel 4 programme.
What we have learned:
- Cameron admitted he couldn't live on a zero hours contract
- Miliband said 'hell yes' he's tough enough to be Prime Minister
- Miliband apologised for aspects of Blair/Brown Government and immigration
- Cameron admitted he didn't meet immigration target
- No new policies were announced
How tonight worked:
- Miliband won a coin toss, and chose to be interviewed second
- Paxman interviewed each leader for 18 minutes
- A 100-strong audience - a third of whom are Tory supporters, a third Labour backers and the final third undecided - questioned them separately for a further 18 minutes, while Sky's Kay Burley moderated
