Graham Alderton was remanded in custody for one week after appearing at Peterlee magistrates' court, Co Durham, accused of the murder of his three young children who died in a fire at their home.

Mr Alderton, 29, who is unemployed, is also charged with the attempted murder of the children's mother, Lisa Alexander, 24, who is expecting another child.
