Moon eclipses sun
(Photograph omitted)
The Sun partly obscured by the Moon during last night's partial eclipse, the first visible from Britain for 10 years. In Green Park, London, a gathering of amateur astronomers, some of whom had travelled hundreds of miles, saw the thumbnail-sized chunk gradually eat away at the Sun's disc as the Moon slipped into line between the Earth and the Sun. Cloud spoiled the view just after 7pm. The next total eclipse of the sun visible from Britain is in 1999.
