Police are to take no action against a man who killed a burglar, it was disclosed last night. The 33-year-old intruder died in hospital after being stabbed in the chest by a young man who had CS gas sprayed in his face.

The burglar, wearing a mask and armed with a knife and gas canister, was disturbed after breaking into a bungalow in Wickford, Essex, on Saturday night. Neither man was named.
