Lloyd's loss led solicitor to suicide

A SOLICITOR who faced bankruptcy after incurring losses on the Lloyd's insurance market hanged himself in despair, an inquest was told yesterday.

Harold Weston, 51, was found by his wife, Diana, hanging from a banister at their home in Cricklewood, north London.

'He was a member of a syndicate of Lloyd's which was bearing losses. He had been called upon to make up some of those losses,' Mrs Weston told Hornsey Coroner's Court.

'He was told he might have to go bankrupt and would not be able to practise as a solicitor. He said they asked for more and more money . . .'

She added: 'He said that maybe he should kill himself, then he promised he wouldn't do that.' A verdict of suicide was recorded.
