The Advertising Standards Agency has reprimanded online retailer Wish.com after a graphic advertisement for a penis extender strap appeared on a video game app used by children.

According to the ASA, the ad was seen on 26 November 2017, and appeared within the game apps 2048 and Crazy Cake Swap, both of which had a Pegi 3 rating, meaning they are suitable for all ages.

The ad also featured on TV remote app Peel Smart Remote.

The ASA said the ad featured “an animated image of a penis above a second animated image of an extender strap being applied to the penis”.

It is the third time in five months Wish.com, a San Francisco based company, has been found to have breached the UK authority’s rules. In each previous case the retailer has failed to respond to the complaints.

Three complaints were made about the latest advert, pointing out that it could easily be seen by children.

The company did not respond to the ASA’s enquiries.

Ketchapp, the developer of the game 2048, said they had increased the age rating in response to the complaints, while the other developers did not provide substantive responses.

The ASA has limited power to punish those that breach advertising standards, but it upheld the complaints and said the ad must not appear again in an untargeted medium.

“We told wish.com to ensure that ads that were inappropriate for children to see were appropriately targeted,” they said.
