A crash between a quad bike and a sports car in West Yorkshire has killed four people.

Officers were alerted to a collision at around 12:34am on Sunday morning involving a bronze Nissan 350Z sports car and a quad bike on the A6201 between Upton and Hemsworth, near Wakefield.

A 20-year-old man riding the quad bike and two females aged 18 and 16 years old died at the scene, according to West Yorkshire Police.

A second 20-year-old man who suffered critical injuries to his head and body was rushed to Leeds General Infirmary hospital where he later died on Sunday morning.

All four victims were from the local area, according to police.

Officers have arrested two men aged 21 and 22 who were in the car at the time of the crash on suspicion of dangerous driving. They remain in police custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Richard Holmes from the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, who is leading the inquiry, urged anyone with information to come forward.

“Widespread investigations are continuing into what is a significant incident on the district's roads which has now tragically resulted in the loss of four lives,” he said.

Due to “painstaking investigate work” at the scene, the road will not reopen until Monday, he added.

Mr Holmes said that the victims’ families are receiving support from officers, but the force is not in the position to release further details about those affected.

Anyone who has information is asked to contact the Major Collision and Enquiry Team on 101.
