From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

This comes after weather warnings for rain were issued in north-west England, south-west Scotland and the south-east of Northern Ireland overnight.
As Thursday morning progresses, wet weather in the north and the west will drift towards East Anglia and southern England.
Clare Nasir, a meteorologist at the Met Office, said: "Most of the showers will be across the north and the west but they'll rattle across the country on quite a strong wind."
The showers will come and go in the south of the UK until Thursday evening, with temperatures reaching a high of 22C in the south-east.
Ms Nasir added that temperatures will peak at 21C in the north.
On Friday, the north and the west will once again have the worst of the wet weather, while there will be "fine weather for central swathes of the country", according to Ms Nasir.
Conditions will be relatively mild on Friday, as temperatures are unlikely to rise above the high teens or early 20s.
Similarly to Thursday and Friday, the outlook for the weekend consists of a combination of sun, wind and rain.
Next week could be slightly warmer than this week, according to Ms Nasir.
