From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Much of the UK will see a dry but cloudy day on Tuesday with temperatures around average for this time of year, forecasters say.

Parts of east, central and southeast England could experience some sunny spells in the morning, although skies will turn increasingly grey as the day progresses.

There will be showery outbreaks in southwest England and south Wales, with rain moving across southern England going into Tuesday evening.

It will feel much cooler than last week when the UK recorded its hottest day of the year so far.

Highs of 20C are expected in southeast and eastern England, while the mercury could hit 16C in Manchester and Glasgow.

“There will be some bright spells in the east, central and southeast England during Tuesday morning,” said Met Office meteorologist Aidan McGivern.

“But increasingly grey skies, in fact, a murky morning to come across south Wales and the southwest of England, with outbreaks of rain.

“Those patches of rain will spill over into the south of England. There will be more intense showers developing across the Highlands.

“Lighter winds compared to Monday will make it fell more pleasant, with temperatures of 18C to 20C. It’s not going to feel particularly summery anywhere”.

There will be cloud and widespread showers in the morning on Wednesday, with heavier rain likely in south-east England, eastern and central Scotland.

Throughout the day, most areas will remain overcast with patchy rain. However, sunny intervals and showers will develop in southern England.

Thursday will be generally dry and cloudy but there will be a few showers in Northern Ireland, Wales and southern England, with some gentle westerly winds.

On Friday, outbreaks of heavy rain will sweep eastwards across the country and it will be mostly dry in the morning for south-east England.
