From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

It will be warm and humid for most on Monday, with temperatures around the 20C mark and highs of 22C in the southeast of England.
Thunder and lightning hit some parts of the midlands, the north of England and Northern Ireland over the weekend and there is a small chance of further storms on Monday.
“The anticipation is on Monday that some parts of the country will again experience these thunderstorms,” said BBC meteorologist Tomasz Shafernaker.
“There could be one or two brewing across southern areas, more particularly in the north. But they will be very local storms, the vast majority of the UK will have a bright and sunny day.”
Going into Tuesday, the weather is looking more unsettled although temperatures will remain around average for this time of year, with highs of 17C in Plymouth, 20C in Hull and 21C in Glasgow.
Tuesday will get off to a dry start for many but showers will develop as the day progresses.
“By Tuesday morning, it’s looking dry for much of the UK with temperatures around 13C at the beginning of the day,” said Mr Shafernaker.
“Showers will become more widespread on Tuesday, developing from north to south, perhaps not affecting the far eastern areas of the country.
“Temperatures will be around average for the time of year, around the 20C mark in most major towns and cities.”
Wednesday will be mostly cloudy for northern areas of the UK with some showery rain at times.
Southern areas should see some sunny spells. However, sharp showers and thunderstorms may break out during the afternoon.
Thursday should see variable cloud in the north and a few showers, and spells of showery rain for the south.
