UK weather: Bright and warm Wednesday with highs of 25C

Weather turning more unsettled on Thursday

Large parts of England can expect a bright and sunny Wednesday, with highs of 25C in the south, according to the Met Office.

Forecasters say it will be another sunny day for the Midlands, East Anglia, southern England and much of Wales.

“We keep the sunshine and warmth for one more day before it turns more widely unsettled,” said Met Office meteorologist Aidan McGivern.

“Many areas will see temperatures a degree higher than Tuesday afternoon.”

However, there will be some rain further north. Parts of northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland will experience showers and cloudy skies as the day progresses.

Temperatures will struggle to get above 19C in Manchester, while highs of 16C are forecast for Edinburgh.

“On Wednesday there will be a north/south split across the country,” Mr McGivern added. “Some heavy rain first thing in the Western Isles and into southwest Scotland as well.

“Northern Ireland could see some fairly lively showers kicking off during the day. Rain across northern England and much of Scotland turns more fragmented and eases a little into the afternoon.”

Going into the Thursday, the weather becomes more unsettled across large swathes of the UK.

An area of low pressure hanging over the west coast of the UK will gradually make its way east through Wednesday night, bringing rain and cloudier skies.

“Some fairly complicated weather fronts across the UK for Thursday,” McGivern explained. “We’ll have outbreaks of rain moving in from the west, sweeping through, bringing cloud and some wet weather to many parts of the country.

“Rain will move from southern Scotland into northern England, Wales and the southwest, reaching the Midlands later in the day.”

Showers will reach southern England and East Anglia by the end of the afternoon.

Meanwhile, Scotland and Northern Ireland should brighten up as Thursday progresses, with just a scattering of showers.

“A better day here compared with Wednesday, with some sunshine breaking through,” McGivern added. “Feeling cool, with 17C or 18C for most places in the north, with highs of 24 in the southeast.

Looking ahead to Friday, conditions will be dry and bright for many, although there will be some showers in south Wales and southwest England.

Saturday will be unsettled with plenty of cloud and showers spreading eastwards across the country.
