From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

As England wakes up to a second national lockdown, the weather will be dry for most across the country, albeit foggy and frosty in some places.

While these relatively dense mist and fog patches will linger in the south and in London, they will slowly clear for sunny spells later on today, according to the Met Office.

A chill will remain in the air as the UK prepares for a biting cold November, while the northwest will see some cloudier weather as the day goes on with a light bit of drizzle.

Looking ahead to this evening, it will remain cold in the south with some frost in the air.

The UK looks set to experience a freezing Bonfire Night, with the Met Office predicting lows of -3C.

Meanwhile, parts of Scotland have seen fresh snowfall throughout the week.

The cloudier conditions for north and northwest will hold off frost and fog in some places.

Though fog patches will develop throughout the day across central and eastern areas and in Northern Ireland, according to the Met Office.

Particularly in the south, frost will linger later on while fog and mist patches will return overnight across central and eastern areas.

This mist will clear going into Friday morning for reliable sunshine across the southwest and northeast Scotland.

As we near the first weekend of lockdown, sunny spells are predicted after some initial frost and fog which will turn milder and cloudier across the south.

And people should prepare for rain in some places on Sunday.
