UK weather: The latest Met Office forecast

Temperatures could fall to -3C in the United Kingdom on Thursday night, forecasters have said.

Sheltered parts of Northern Ireland will see the worst of the cold snap while parts of the West Midlands will hit -2C.

It is expected to be a frosty but dry night across the country, with little to no rain expected on the whole.

“We will see a cold night tonight and more sheltered parts of the UK, like in Northern Ireland, will see temperatures fall down to minus three,” John West, a meteorologist from the Met Office, told The Independent.

“Areas in the West Midlands, like Herefordshire, could see temperatures fall to -1C or -2C,” he added.

As the weekend draws closer the majority of the UK will experience milder weather.

It will be wet and windy but the temperatures will rise to approximately 14C in some areas by the end of the weekend.

There are however yellow warnings in place for rain on Saturday in Western Scotland with 60-80mm of rain expected in areas of higher ground.

“We are likely to see heavy rain throughout Scotland on Saturday, which could have a significant impact on anyone who is travelling,” Mr West said.
