The UK will experience plenty of fine weather this week with temperatures soaring into the mid-30s, the Met Office has said.

High pressure will bring good weather and hot air, leading to an increase in temperatures. The mercury is predicted to hit the mid-30s by Thursday.

However, the weather will vary greatly between different parts of the UK at the start of the week.

Alex Burkill, a meteorologist at the Met Office, said there will be “something of a north-south split” in conditions on Monday, with rain in northern parts and sun further south.

Mr Burkill said: “Monday will get off to a bright but chilly start for many parts. However, the rain and cloud across Northern Ireland will push across parts of Scotland, northern England as well as northern and western Wales.”

“Further south and east it should stay dry and bright and sunny,” he added.

Temperatures will reach the mid-20s in and around London, while they will not rise above 16C in some areas on the Scottish and Welsh coasts.

The pattern of weather will not change much on Monday, as the north and north-west of the UK continue to be cloudy and prone to further outbreaks of rain.

Looking further ahead, temperatures will rise as the week progresses.

“High pressure will dominate as we go through the rest of the week, bringing lots of fine weather and also bringing in hot air. So temperatures are going to rise,” Mr Burkill said.

Although it is not yet clear how long the good weather will last, there is the potential for thunderstorms by the end of the week.
