From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Met Office forecasts that most of England and the whole of Wales will experience cloudy weather on Sunday and light patches of rain.
Greg Dewhurst, a meteorologist at the Met Office, told The Independent: “It is a cloudy picture across the southern two-thirds of England and the whole of Wales.”
Elsewhere, there will be brighter skies in northern England, Northern Ireland and Scotland, with the possibility of a scattering of showers.
Overnight, it could turn quite cold in places, with temperatures dropping to 1 or 2C in some parts of Scotland.
On Monday, the outlook is mostly dry with sunny spells but there will be one or two heavy showers across east England.
Mr Dewhurst said: “Generally, there will be more sunshine around, especially in the south. It’ll feel a bit warmer [than Sunday].”
Although the average temperature for both Sunday and Monday will fall between 14 and 17C, there will be a high of around 18 or 19C in the London area on Monday.
Looking further into next week, wind and rain will sweep into south-west England on Monday night and will reach southern Wales by Tuesday morning.
In the areas of rain, temperatures will average between 12 and 14C, while they will reach 15 and 16C in parts of the UK which have sunny spells on Tuesday.
Towards the end of the working week, temperatures will start to rise again and could reach 22C.
