Soho fire: Ronnie Scott's jazz club evacuated after fire starts in nearby London restaurant

A fire near Ronnie Scott's jazz club in Soho has caused Christmas diners to be evacuated from bars and restaurants.

Firefighters were called to a premises in Frith Street, central London, shortly after 12.30pm on Tuesday and are still at the scene.

A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade said the blaze is believed to have started in an extraction system but the cause was not known.

Six fire engines with 35 firefighters and officers have been sent to the scene, he said, and the brigade has not had any reports of injuries.

People dining in the famous jazz bar and nearby restaurants were evacuated and the area cordoned off as smoke spread through Soho.

The fire is believed to have been quickly extinguished and Frith Street is expected to reopen later this afternoon.
