A member of the armed forces has died and two others are fighting for their lives after a road accident, police said today.

Four men were in a vehicle being driven on Whitehill Road in Standford, near Bordon, Hampshire, at 10.10pm yesterday when the crash happened.

Three were trapped and had to be released by emergency services. One died at the scene and two others are in a critical condition at Kings College Hospital, London.

The fourth man escaped with minor injuries and is recovering in Frimley Park Hospital, Surrey.

A Ministry of Defence spokeswoman said officials are aware of the incident, which is under investigation.
