London’s first ever indoor skate park is set to open this weekend in Waterloo.

The House of Vans London will be situated in five tunnels near Waterloo’s Old Vic Theatre, and will be the only indoor park for London’s skateboarders and rollerbladers.

The 30,000 sq ft area will give skaters access to the facilities that include different sections including a pool-style concrete bowl, mini-ramp and a street section with grinding poles.

The site, which was bought from British Rail by The Old Vic theatre in 2010, was used as a performance space until last year.

The new park will also provide spaces for emerging and established artists and musicians to showcase their work.

Four studios will be made available to artists, while one of the tunnels will provide an 850-capacity music venue for DJ nights and live gigs.

According to organisers, the area, which will also see bars and restaurants installed, will be open for at least the next three years, with a hope that the lease can be extended past then.

The launch night will feature various exhibitions including Scissors & Glue an exhibition and series of talks paying homage to the roots of independent publishing, with a selection of DJs and live acts providing the music.
