From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

A schoolboy has died after a "collision" during a youth football match in Buckinghamshire.

Luca Campanaro, who captained the Bedgrove Dynamos under 13s, was injured during a game in Aylesbury on 9 December.

He was rushed to hospital in an air ambulance but his injuries left him brain-dead.

Luca died of his injuries on 10 December after it was decided that his life support machine should be turned off.

His family chose to donate his organs, according to the JustGiving page which has been set up in his memory.

Donations have poured in for Luca’s family and so far more than £9000 has been raised.

The money is intended to be used to help Luca's family cover the costs of a funeral.

In a statement, Bedgrove Dynamos committee said: “We are deeply saddened to have to announce that a young player from the club sadly passed away this afternoon after being involved in a collision during a youth match on Sunday 9th December.

"Our thoughts are with Luca’s family and loved ones at this distressing time.

"We also offer our heartfelt condolences to his team mates and all associated with the club as we now try to come to terms with the tragic loss of our friend and team mate.”
