Millions of Britons would like to be a "fly on the wall" at Windsor Castle so they could get a peek into the life of the Queen, a poll has found.

One in eight would like have a nose around the White House under the Trump Administration, while other celebrity lives which pique the public’s interest include Beyoncé, Simon Cowell and the Beckhams.

"It feels like Brits want to find themselves at the heart of the action more often," said a spokesperson for Sky Witness, which commissioned the study.

“It’s only natural to be curious about these larger-than-life figures and personalities, and there is something inimitable about witnessing these people and moments in the flesh.”

Of those polled 73 per cent thought they could do more to get out and participate in potentially historic or important events.

Others regretted missing out on 24 events over the course of 2018, with a third already feeling disappointment at not witnessing a recent historical event.

Fifteen per cent wished they could have been in the stands to watch the World Cup Semi Finals, in which England were knocked out by Croatia and one in seven Britons confessed they would have liked invite to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding.

But 36 per cent admitted their main reason for wanting to be in attendance at these big occasions is so they can brag to friends and family. One in five craved the opportunity to be part of a historic moment, with half believing they have already borne witness to a major historical event in their lifetime.

The study also asked people to consider the next 12 months and the events they won’t want to miss.

One in four would love the opportunity to go along to the New Year’s Eve firework display along the River Thames to welcome in 2019.

Eighteen per cent would like to get tickets to 2019’s Wimbledon tennis championships, and 14 per cent want the chance to go to the Glastonbury Festival.

The Edinburgh Fringe Festival is an event 14 per cent said are keen to attend in the next year.

Meanwhile, one in 10 want to experience the multicultural sights and sounds of Notting Hill Carnival.
