Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

A Lotto jackpot prize of £5.6 million remains unclaimed, the National Lottery said today.

The owner of the winning ticket, which was bought in Port Talbot area, in Neath Port Talbot, Wales, has yet to come forward to take their winnings.

The could-be millionaire matched all six of the numbers pulled in the Lotto Double Rollover draw on December 1: 20, 21, 22, 24, 27 and 34.

They have until 5.30pm on May 30 to make their claim.

If the money is not taken up it will be given, along with the interest it has accrued, to the Good Causes fund - adding to the £25 billion raised from the National Lottery since 1994.

A National Lottery spokesman said: "We're desperate to find this mystery ticket-holder and unite them with their winnings - this amazing prize could really make a huge difference to somebody's life and would be a wonderful Christmas surprise.

"We're urging everyone to check their old tickets again or look anywhere a missing ticket could be hiding.

"Try checking in the pockets of clothing, in wallets, bags and down the back of the sofa - someone out there could literally be sitting on a fortune!

"We have the Champagne on ice and our fingers crossed that the lucky winner comes forward to claim their win in time for Christmas."
