From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The sole winner of Wednesday's £2.6 million jackpot has not yet come forward and another ticket-holder has failed to claim a £1.9 million win from Saturday's draw.
The third unclaimed jackpot is from the November 1, 2008 draw. The winning ticket, bought in the borough of Swale, Kent, is worth £1,591,090.
Time is ticking on another unclaimed prize. A £448,851 share of the jackpot from the September 3, 2008 draw has not yet been claimed and the winning ticket holder must contact Camelot by March 2.
The ticket was bought in the London borough of Bromley.
A prize of £593,100 from the Bonfire Night draw on November 5 also remains unclaimed.
The five unclaimed jackpot prizes are worth a combined total of £7,218,079.
A National Lottery spokesman said: "We urge players to check their tickets so we can pay out these fantastic jackpot prizes.
"The Lotto ticket hidden in a drawer, down the back of the sofa or just sat on your side could make you an instant millionaire."
Players have 180 days after the draw to claim their prize. Tickets can be checked at any National Lottery retailer or at http://www.national-lottery.co.uk.
Anyone who believes they have a winning jackpot ticket should call the National Lottery Line on 0845 910 0000.
